BUNNING ANNOUNCES FEDERAL FUNDS FOR CARROLLTON, KENTUCKY

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senator Jim Bunning today announced that the United States Department of Energy has awarded $31,000,000 in federal funds for a project in Carrollton, Kentucky proposed by the Louisville Gas & Electric Corporation.

This public-private partnership is an emissions control technology demonstration project that will dramatically reduce emissions released from coal power plants, and will use the captured effluents to produce fertilizer. This project expects to achieve a 99.5 percent reduction in SO2, a 90 percent reduction in NOx, and a 90 percent reduction in Mercury.

"I am pleased that Carrollton County in conjunction with Louisville Gas and Electric Corporation was able to secure these funds," said Bunning. "This new clean coal technology will help make our Commonwealth a cleaner, healthier place to live."
