
Airborne Pollution Control to Build
Proprietary Advanced Pollution Control
Facility
Ground-Breaking
Process Reduces Harmful Emissions
& Turns Pollution Into Fertilizer
CALGARY, May 29
Airborne Pollution
Control Inc. (Airborne) has partnered
with three industry leaders to conduct
the first-ever field testing of its
proprietary and ground-breaking multi-pollutant
control process (the Airborne Process).
Together with the Babcock & Wilcox
Company and USFilter, Airborne will
build a demonstration facility in
Kentucky at the Ghent generating facility
which is operated by LG&E Energy
Corp. (LG&E) subsidiary, Kentucky
Utilities.
With over 50% of
North America's electrical power being
generated from coal, the Airborne
Process addresses a global concern
by removing acid rain producing sulfur
dioxide (SO2) and smog producing nitrogen
oxides (NOx) from plant emissions.
The scrubbing agent used to remove
the pollutants is sodium bicarbonate,
a compound similar to household baking
soda. Unlike other scrubbing procedures,
the sodium bicarbonate is regenerated
in the process reducing operating
costs, increasing efficiencies, reducing
waste and most notably, the Airborne
Process turns the pollution into a
high-quality granular fertilizer.
All components of
the Airborne Process have proven viable
in the power, chemical and fertilizer
industries and this demonstration
facility will showcase the integration
of the combined technologies. Following
a successful demonstration later this
year, LG&E may capitalize on its
investment in Airborne by having the
first production facility in North
America built at the Ghent generating
facility in Kentucky.

Airborne Pollution
